By Refugees, For Refugees | Meet The Team Building Hope in Malawi’s Largest Refugee Camp

For this fourth episode of Protect The World, I’ve travelled to Dzaleka – Malawi’s largest refugee camp – in order to document the work of one of the world’s most unique refugee-led organisations.

Founded by exiled Congolese hip-hop artist Trésor Nzengu Mpauni (aka Menes la Plume), Tumaini Letu is striving to flip the narrative on what it means to be a refugee. From poetry and music, to fashion and artisanship, they run a variety of creative and entrepreneurial initiatives, and they even coordinate a homestay program, providing outsiders with the opportunity to live with and learn from refugee families.

However, Tumaini Letu’s flagship program is the annual Tumaini Festival. Drawing in tens of thousands of visitors, the festival is a three-day showcase of the immense talents that exist within Dzaleka Refugee Camp, and a celebration of the community who live there.

As always, half the money that came into the Patreon this month was donated directly to Tumaini Letu – plus a bit more from my own savings. This money will help to provide even more opportunities for refugees in Dzaleka to share their skills and stories with the world.

You can donate to Tumaini Letu by visiting https://tumainiletu.org/, and if you’d like to help me give more money to more amazing NGOs in future, please consider signing up to the Patreon at   / brodiehopkinsmedia   for as little as $5 a month.

You can also sign up to my newsletter, and follow the rest of my work on Instagram and Facebook.

A huge thank you to everyone who supports this project, and to the incredible team at Tumaini Letu for welcoming me into their world. If you enjoyed the episode, please be sure to share it with your friends and family, and stay tuned for more exciting updates to come.

Thanks for watching!
